WineRelease.com's March 15, 2002 Monthly Newsletter

Greetings. WineRelease.com is now 576 wineries strong!

Cheers to my first HTML e-mail. I hope you like it better than boring text.

My friend Jim was in town on business from Chicago and wanted a great meal in San Francisco. So we went to my favorite SF restaurant, Gary Danko. In my opinion, Gary Danko is the second best restaurant on the West Coast (behind The French Laundry). We asked Sommelier Christie Dufault for White Burgundy recommendations and she recommended a 1998 Puligny-Montrachet "Les Combettes" by Domaine Jacques Prieur. The wine had a citrus nose with a hint of pear rind and followed up with minerally lemon and lime on the mid palate and a cleansing finish. A beautiful wine that developed more character as the evening progressed. I brought a 1990 Diamond Creek Lake Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from my cellar for our main course (Jim had steak and I had pheasant). The Diamond Creek had loads of leather, earth and chocolate on the nose with saddle leather, cigar tobacco, cherry and black fruit on the palate and rich black plum with nicely laid tannins on the finish. It was a spectacular wine that went along with our spectacular dinner.

On to the show...
