WineRelease.com's July 15, 2016 Monthly Newsletter.

Here in Napa Valley, summer is in full swing. We put the finishing touches on our bocce ball court over Fathers Day weekend, and my Father-in-Law threw out the inaugural pitch, using the ball he found while plowing the family farm, in a field which is now the site of the current Ritz Carlton, Half Moon Bay. We had a nice group at the house for that event, serving the Santa Rosa Fish Companys smoked salmon, grilled potesto (potato/pesto/roasted garlic) pizza, my famous kale salad, with kale sourced from the garden, and our new go-to salmon recipe, from Melissa Clark at The New York Times.

Tank Winery in Calistoga held a pinball party about two weeks ago and our crew of six (including my four year old daughter and a well-behaved 11 year old golden retriever) had a blast. They were pouring 10 different wines that paired well with the tacos provided by the local taco truck(my wife kept going back for more of the bubbly, to compliment the flavorful pulled pork tacos). The atmosphere was relaxed and jovial and the staff really took care of our crew, making sure our furry friend had a full bowl of water at all times. We walked away with a case of the rose, which has been a crowd pleaser at several informal gatherings since the event.

One of our neighbors and dear friends celebrated her 65th birthday this past month, hosting a lovely event at Vino Velo. Food pairing, provided by the Bruschetta truck included a mushroom bruschetta, roasted chicken, and a really nice farro salad. The band was fantastic, wine delicious, and food perfect for the occasion. We rocked down to some great oldies with our birthday girl, and closed the night with a nice glass of cognac around the fire pit, back at their house.

Two of the families from our Provence trip joined us in Napa for the long 4th of July weekend (third year in a row). A few of us were able to sneak off for a private tasting at Outpost and Ladera, which were fantastic. The views from the patio at Outpost were really breathtaking and our host KC, who is also our neighbor, is knowledgable about wine and is passionate about wine.

As has become tradition, we dined at Cairdean Winery over the weekend. This was the third management team for the restaurant and while weve enjoyed each, we absolutely loved this group. Most of them are the old Tra Vigne crew and they brought a few of their signature dishes, like the hand-pulled mozzarella on grilled bread, which is a must-have. We had a great dinner and then closed the night out by the fireplace on the patio.

Lucky for us, summer really runs through fall here in Northern California, so we are looking forward to more warm nights of bocce, delicious rose, and winery events.

And now, onto the wines...
